"Helping Michigan Get Back To Work"

Big Screen Michigan is making a grass roots push to save the MI Film Tax Incentive from being reduced, capped, or otherwise altered by the Michigan state legislature vote on the Michigan budget balance in Lansing.

We firmly believe that any alteration of the incentive from its current form will, in essence, destroy the momentum that has been generated over the past 18 months in the Michigan motion picture, television, and video game industry.

The exodus of thousands of Michigan manufacturing jobs, the demise of the "Big Three" and the constant flip-flopping of the state's tax structure has created and unstable business climate, which has forced many Michigan based businesses to close their doors or exit the state entirely.

The legislature did something RIGHT in March 2008 by passing the most aggressive Film Incentive in the country. Motion picture, television, and video game productions have been increasing their presence and will continue to do so if there is no change.

The current film incentive package that provides a maximum 42% rebate, the strongest in the country, is successfully providing employment for thousands of industry professionals along with a future for the young and talented next generation.

It is working! And it's too soon in the game to alter it. Any change now is sending the wrong message to future in-state and out-of-state production companies that are planning to create their projects in Michigan.
